It’s the year of the rooster, and Penn State York is celebrating Chinese New Year from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 31 with a variety of activities, food and more. The festivities, which will take place in the Conference Center of the Main Classroom Building, are free and open to the public.
First Capital Drumline brought the house down with a rousing performance of “Can-O-Saurus,” and ultimately took first place at Paw Search, a talent and variety show sponsored by Penn State York Benefiting THON on Jan. 20. The event raised about $1,000 for the fight against pediatric cancer through THON, the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon.

Robots were in action on Jan. 21. at Penn State York when 35 teams of middle- and high-school students took part in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) South Central Pennsylvania Regional Qualifier, a robotics competition. The winning alliance, comprised of three teams, included the Javengers from Enola, Pennsylvania; Cubix^3 from Hampstead, Maryland; and Sparks from Villanova, Pennsylvania.

"Free Fan Labor! The Work of Fandom in the Internet Era," will be the topic when Mel Stanfill, a faculty member at the University of Central Florida, speaks at noon on Feb. 16 at Penn State York. The program, in the Community Room of the Joe and Rosie Student Community Center, is free and open to the public.
Karra Thomason, a junior at Penn State York, was just 1 year old the first time she watched her mom, Amanda, play basketball at Penn State York. Little did she know that later in life, she too would play basketball for the York campus and honor her mother by wearing the same jersey number, 20.
Jeff Barkdoll, interim athletic director and head baseball coach, has been named the first full-time athletic director at Penn State York. Barkdoll began the position Feb. 1.
