School is out for summer, but that doesn’t mean that teachers are just on vacation. Heart of Teaching: Instructional Practices for Teachers (EDCU 497), a weeklong graduate course, is being offered from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. July 9-13 at Penn State York. The class will be held in the Community Room of the Joe and Rosie Ruhl Student Community Center on campus.
Fore! Do you play golf, and are you interested in participating in a collegiate sport? Penn State York has announced its new collegiate golf team, open to men and women, set to begin in August 2018. Adding golf to Penn State York’s athletic programs brings the total number of collegiate sports teams to seven.
Two Penn State York baseball players have earned awards for their play during the 2018 season. Austin Lehman was named to the Penn State University Athletic Conference First Team and earned a United States Collegiate Athletic Association All-American Honorable Mention. Levi Stein was named the winner of the John Fritz Sportsmanship Award for baseball.

In an effort to consolidate multiple external food service contracts at seven of its Commonwealth Campuses, Penn State has awarded Metz Culinary Management a three-year food services contract to serve those locations.
David Christiansen, associate vice president for Commonwealth Campuses and senior associate dean for academic programs, has been named chancellor of Penn State York, effective Aug. 1. Following a national search, Christiansen was selected to succeed David W. Chown, who will retire in August as the campus chancellor, after five years serving in the role.

Penn State York is offering a 20-hour Spanish course designed to help prepare students to talk with members of the Spanish-speaking community. This noncredit course begins Wednesday, June 6, and continues each Wednesday through Aug. 15, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
