York announces launch of Working Class and winners of student Start-Up Challenge

Penn State President Eric Barron, Penn State York officials, and Erin Casey, co-founder and board member of Working Class, will announce the launch of Working Class, a makerspace partnership, at 1:45 p.m. Aug. 9 in the theater of the Pullo Family Performing Arts Center at the York campus. The winners of the Start-Up Challenge at Penn State York also will be announced at the event.

Nordic Dancers of Washington, D.C., to perform at Penn State York on Aug. 19

Discover the dances of the Nordic region when the Nordic Dancers of Washington, D.C., take to the stage for a free performance at the Pullo Family Performing Arts Center at Penn State York. The group is set to perform at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19. The event free and open to the public. This is the 2017-18 kickoff event for Teaching International at Penn State York.

Prospective students and their families can explore the opportunities available at Penn State during two special events at Penn State York in July: Spend a Summer Evening, 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18; and Spend a Summer Day, 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, July 25, in the Pullo Family Performing Arts Center theater, second level.

York Summer Institute addesses social justice and equity in education

Social Justice and Equity in Education, a weeklong course designed for education professionals, diversity specialists, guidance counselors, social workers, and more, is set for June 19-23 at Penn State York. Penn State York’s Summer Institute 2017 features Laura Roy, associate professor of literacy education at Penn State Harrisburg, and addresses the difficult subject of social justice in the classroom.
