John “Murf” Murphy and Bryan England, veterans and student leaders at Penn State York, are helping fellow veterans transition to civilian life through the Penn State York Student Veterans of America (SVA) chapter. Drawing upon their military backgrounds, they advocate for resources, community support, and career opportunities, ensuring veterans find purpose and success beyond service.
In the early hours of the morning on Veterans Day, a group of Penn State York staff gathered to place 144 American flags at campus entrances in honor of all veterans. An appreciation event for veterans is set for Monday, Nov. 15, free and open to the public, with required registration.
Cameron Flemmens, a Penn State York student-veteran, always wanted to attend Penn State and it is the only place he applied when he completed his military service.
Groups join forces to gather items to brighten the holidays for soldiers in Afghanistan through the Santa for Soldiers program. Items will be accepted through Nov. 11.
Penn State York’s Student Veterans of America (SVA), York Chapter, is once again sponsoring a Toys for Tots drive on campus. SVA has joined with the Marine Corps Reserve for this important project. New, unopened and unwrapped toys will be collected through Dec. 14.
There’s still time to donate to Santa for Soldiers and brighten the holidays for soldiers serving in the military. Penn State York’s Blue and White Society (BWS) has once again joined forces with the Penn State York Alumni Society (PSYAS), and Mt. Rose Barberama for “Santa for Solders” (SFS). The groups are working together to collect items, now through Sunday, Nov. 11 for U.S. Army National Guard soldiers stationed in Afghanistan.
Penn State York’s veterans organization, Student Veterans of America (SVA), York Chapter, is sponsoring a Toys for Tots drive on campus. New, unopened, and unwrapped toys will be collected through Dec. 9. The toys, for children ages newborn through 12 years old, will be distributed to less fortunate children in the community through the First Capital Marine Corps League Toys for Tots program.
