Information Technology

Members of SCROUNGE (Students for Computer Recycling to Outfit Underrepresented Nonprofit Groups in Education) teaching the campus community how to recycle old computer parts.

The bachelor of science in Information Technology (IT) is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to compete and be productive in applying information technology to solve problems in today’s global business environment. Specifically, the degree focuses on building an understanding of core information technologies such as:

  • Programming
  • Networking
  • Databases
  • Security
  • Risk analysis

The IT degree helps prepare students for the practical application of various information technologies such as enterprise resource planning and cloud computing.

Students engage in courses that will sharpen their ability to think critically and to communicate effectively. Team projects with writing and presentation components, a required internship, and a capstone experience provide additional opportunities for involving students in the cutting-edge issues and technologies of the field.

Students may choose one of four options to better align their educational experience with their career goals: Application Development, Business Applications, Cybersecurity, or a custom option to allow even more freedom to explore the field of information technology. Career Opportunities

Here’s what you can do with a degree in Information technology (IT):

  • Graduates from this program typically enter the industry as systems analysts, data analysts, consultants, or system developers.
  • Past graduates are employed by organizations such as the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Deloitte, Booz-Allen Hamilton, Accenture, and International Justice Mission.
  • Past graduates are employed in the healthcare, insurance, government, and consulting sectors, among many others.
  • The US Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that the need for information technology professionals grew by 11% in 2020.
