Travis Pulling, Class of 2022
Senior Tooling Engineer at BAE Systems, Inc.
“The Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology program at Penn State York provided a solid knowledge base that complemented my work in manufacturing tooling.”
Travis Pulling did not start his education at Penn State York campus, but it is where it finished – and where his success was born.
“When I originally attended University Park, I was still unsure of my career path – even after completing my junior year,” he said. “I ended up leaving and spending many years in the industry, gaining broad practical experience. A degree, however, is critical to career growth and job access in the field of engineering, so I moved back to York for a job offer and got the opportunity to complete my degree at Penn State York simultaneously.”
Pulling was initially apprehensive about his nontraditional student status, but found himself quickly acclimating to campus life at Penn State York.
“Working in the engineering field while enrolled in the electro-mechanical engineering technology program at Penn State York allowed me to directly apply more advanced engineering principles to the problems I was tackling at work,” he said. “Thanks to the support, flexibility, and resources at York campus, I continuously advanced my career and eventually earned a promotion at my company!”
Pulling graduated in May 2022 with a bachelor of science in Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology, and was promoted to a senior position shortly after as a senior tooling engineer at BAE Systems.
“Before and during my time in the program at Penn State York, I worked as a tool designer with a basic knowledge of the practice,” he said. “Seeing the principles in the program be applied in real-world practice helped me gain a greater understanding of my field, which enabled my success in both my studies and my career.”
Pulling has no regrets finishing out his degree program at Penn State York.
“The broad engineering knowledge I gained at Penn State York has prepared me to assume greater responsibility and solve increasingly complex engineering problems,” he said. “This is a crucial skill to have in the rapidly advancing electro-mechanical industrial environment. At Penn State York, students – especially those interested in the engineering field – can and will earn a quality education.”
