Penn State York is bringing back its drive-in outdoor movie for the first time since the pandemic. As is pictured here from a previous year, the parking lot behind the Pullo Family Performing Arts Center (The Pullo Center) on campus will be transformed into a drive-in movie venue with a huge inflatable big screen.  Moviegoers can stay in their cars or bring chairs and blankets to sit outside and enjoy "Top Gun Maverick" beginning at 7:15 p.m.

YORK, Pa. — “Top Gun Maverick” is the featured film for the drive-in movie at Penn State York set for 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15. The film is free and open to the public.

The story line features Tom Cruise, otherwise known as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in the “Top Gun” series, who confronts his past while training a group of younger Top Gun graduates for a dangerous mission.

Movie-lovers can park in the lower parking lot area behind the Pullo Family Performing Arts Center (The Pullo Center) on campus beginning at 5:30 p.m. In case of rain, the movie will be shown in The Pullo Center theatre.

The event is sponsored by Penn State York’s University Programming Board (UPB) and has become a campus tradition which has been on hiatus since the pandemic. Free popcorn will be available while supplies last.

“This is a great opportunity to engage with the Penn State York community, on and off campus, for something new and fun. It’s an experience you won’t want to miss,” according to Sadie Schantz and Tyler Muessig, Penn State York students and executive members of the UPB.

A concession stand featuring drinks, candy, and other snacks, will be available for $1 per item, with proceeds going to children and their families battling pediatric cancer.

The production company showing the movies will have its own tuner system, so those who would like to stay in their vehicles and listen to the movie, as per a traditional drive-in experience, can do so. There will also be a spot set up in front of the parking lot for those attendees who wish to relax outside of their car and watch the movie. Be sure to bring a chair or blanket for outdoor seating.
