Biography
Sukhdeep Gill started working in prevention research 25+ years ago to further evidence-based preventive interventions to promote development and change trajectories and outcomes for children and families. She is a faculty affiliate of the Edna Bennett Pierce Prevention Research Center (PRC) and Child Study Center (CSC) at Penn State. She has been the recipient of a United Nations Development Program fellowship and was named a Prevention Fellow at PRC. She is a core member of Early Child Development and Peacebuilding working group associated with Asia-Pacific Regional Network of Early Childhood and served as an EAPRO/UNICEF consultant on developing curriculum to promote social emotional learning during early childhood.
Dr. Gill’s research interests include early development-in-context, interpersonal relations, social-emotional learning, mindfulness practices, program evaluation, and community-based action research. Her current areas of research include training, support, and functioning of staff working with parents and young children in Early Head Start and development and implementation of preventive interventions for families with young children from poverty backgrounds to promote health, social-emotional development, and school readiness.
Outside of the lab or classroom, you might find Dr. Gill at home in her yard, singing and performing at Indian gatherings, or traveling to exotic places that would help her hone her Spanish learning skills.
