Mel Stanfill, assistant professor of texts and technology and digital media at University of Central Florida, will speak at noon on Feb. 16 at Penn State York. Her presentation, in the community room of the Joe and Rosie Ruhl Student Community Center, is free and open to the public. Stanfill's topic is "Free Fan Labor! The Work of Fandom in the Internet Era."

Lenwood Sloan, artist and historian, will visit Penn State York on Thursday, Feb. 23 and talk about the history of Pennsylvania's Underground Railroad.  The program, at noon in the Community Room of the Joe and Rosie Ruhl Student Community Center, is free and open to the public.

Papakojo Kuranchie, the former president of the Black Student Union at Penn State York, rang the bell of freedom and spoke during the presentation of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech last year.  Six members of the BSU will perform the speech on Monday, Jan. 30 at 12:15 p.m. in the Conference Center of the Main Classroom Building.  Kuranchie has moved on to University Park to finish his degree.

The Cyber Spartans from Erdenheim, Pennsylvania, gave the Niitany Lion a quick lesson in robotics during the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) South Central Pennsylvania Regional Qualifier at Penn State York on Jan. 21. Thirty-five teams of middle- and high-school students from across the state and Maryland participated.
