Six Sigma Black Belt Certification

Penn State York is offering Six Sigma Black Belt Certification in partnership with Penn State Great Valley.

Program Overview

Six Sigma Black Belt Certification

Lean Six Sigma is a business analytic approach for continuous improvement that optimizes performance through the reduction and elimination of variance and waste. Our four-module Six Sigma Black Belt Certification course blends classroom experience with hands-on activities to provide skills that can be applied immediately, including:

  • Improving services, products, and offerings Continuous process improvement Information flow
  • Quality
  • Business justification analysis methods Eliminating waste
  • Value stream improvement
  • Lean scheduling
  • Competitive advantage
  • Market growth
  • Business profitability

All classes are taught by Six Sigma Master Black Belts who are subject matter experts and share a wealth of real-world experience. A digital badge will be awarded upon completion. Badges can be digitally displayed anywhere to recognize attaining a new level of knowledge.

Program Scope and Sequence

A Penn State certification is awarded upon completion of all four modules and after passing the comprehensive Black Belt certification exam. A practice exam will be given at the end of each module. Throughout the course, you’ll conduct an ongoing Lean Six Sigma project which should be sponsored through your place of work, unless otherwise authorized by our instructors. Projects must be scoped for a minimum of six months and directly impact your organization.

Why Pursue Certification

Lean Six Sigma and Six Sigma methodologies can be applied across many industries, like manufacturing, supply chain, finance, healthcare, engineering, construction, and more. Some key focuses of the program are creating financial returns that are quantifiable and measurable, building a more robust management team intent on rectifying waste, and replacing assumptions with statistical methods and data.

  • Implement continuous process improvement and projects within your organization Want to earn a globally recognized certification and increase your marketability Holding other Six Sigma belts is not required to enroll.

Program Objectives

This certification can help you improve production processes, employee engagement, lean scheduling, and business justification analysis methods; identify risks; eliminate waste and defects by removing them; and guarantee quality while reducing overall costs and increasing profit margins.

Each module offers in-depth training on specific topics of Six Sigma and are targeted toward team members responsible for implementing continuous process improvements in products, services, and business processes.

Continuing Education Units

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are awarded based on a standard of one unit per 10 hours of classroom contact. This course is scheduled for 85 contact hours, or 8.5 CEUs awarded.

Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) continuous learning points are awarded based on a standard of one unit per one hour of classroom contact.

Note: The University reserves the right to cancel courses due to insufficient enrollment or other unforeseen circumstances.
