What is Penn State’s definition of an adult learner?
A student who:
- is 24 years of age or older; or
- is a veteran of the armed services; or an active duty service member; or
- is returning to school after four or more years of employment, homemaking, or other activity; or
- assumes multiple adult roles such as parent, spouse/partner, and employee.
These students do not have to submit any SAT or ACT scores for admission.

How to Apply
Students are encouraged to apply online by setting up a MyPennState profile. Adult Learners should apply for admission as soon as possible prior to the start of the desired semester. A completed application includes the application itself, the application fee ($65), official copies of all college transcripts, and an official copy of the high school transcript, regardless of how long ago the student may have attended.

Penn State's Office of Continuing Education and Workforce Development offers personal and professional development opportunities for individuals or companies, credit certificates that can strengthen a résumé and lead to a degree, and evening and weekend courses that fit the schedules of busy adults.
