Penn State is an approved training provider through the Department of Human Services Bureau of Human Services Licensing under the Personal Care Homes Licensing Regulations as of April 23, 2005, published in 55 Pa. Code Chapter 2600 (35 Pa.B.2499).
Penn State York offers the entire 100 hours of training and the exam via Zoom.
Personal Care Home Administrators and Assisted Living Administrators may take any of the individual classes to satisfy yearly continuing education requirements.
We have a variety of day and time options to meet the needs of busy adults. We offer an accelerated 4-weekend course, and full-time and part-time weekday and evening options. You must complete all required modules within the day/time option you chose. Students are expected to obtain their CPR/AED training at their workplace or from an approved provider such as the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross. In order to receive your Penn State Certificate the entire 100-hours must be completed. If you miss a class and have to schedule a make-up session you may incur an additional fee.
In order to be hired and work as a Personal Care Home Administrator in Pennsylvania, you must meet complete the 100-hour program, pass the test, and attend a one-day Department of Human Services (DHS) Orientation. There is no fee for this DHS orientation.
Anyone may take this 100-hour course but in order to work as a Personal Care Home Administrator (PCHA) in Pennsylvania, you must meet one of the following educational requirements:
- An associate degree or 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university
- A license as a registered nurse from the Pennsylvania Department of State
- A license as a licensed practical nurse from the Pennsylvania Department of State and one year of experience in a related field
- A license as a nursing home administrator from the Pennsylvania Department of State
- For a home serving eight or fewer residents, a general education development diploma or high school diploma and two years of direct care or administrative experience in the human services field
You are expected to be in front of a computer with your camera on while attending the entire class. Please, no driving or doing rounds while participating. If you are observed driving or doing rounds, you will be dismissed from the class and will have to make up that module. You may not miss more than 20 minutes of any module; if you do so, you will have to repeat that module.
Scholarships for the 100-hour course are available through the Thomas R. Roth Memorial Scholarship Fund.
